A Subsidy on E-Rickshaws for Disabled Construction Workers
The Gujarat Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (GBOCWWB) is committed to the welfare of its workforce, particularly those facing adversity. The Go-Green Three Wheelers Scheme is a unique initiative designed to empower construction workers who have become disabled or incapacitated due to accidents on construction sites. By providing a substantial subsidy for the purchase of an e-rickshaw, the scheme helps these individuals secure a new livelihood, offering a sustainable way to earn a living and support their families. This program is a step towards not only social but also environmental responsibility.
Eligibility: Who Can Apply?
The scheme is specifically for disabled construction workers and has a clear set of criteria to ensure the benefits reach the right individuals:
- Registration: The applicant must be a registered construction worker with the Gujarat Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.
- Disability: The worker must have become disabled or incapacitated due to an accident at a construction site.
- Licensing: The applicant must possess a valid license to drive a three-wheeler.
- Vehicle Ownership: The benefit is for the purchase of a new, lithium-ion battery-operated three-wheeler (e-rickshaw) registered in the applicant’s name.
- Frequency: The benefit of this scheme can be availed only once by a registered construction worker.
Benefits of the Scheme
The scheme provides significant financial relief, making the purchase of an e-rickshaw highly affordable.
- Substantial Subsidy: A one-time subsidy of 50% of the ex-showroom price or ₹48,000, whichever is less, is provided for the purchase of the e-rickshaw.
- Additional Assistance: The scheme also covers the full cost of the Registration Fee and Road Tax paid for the first time for the new three-wheeler. This further reduces the initial financial burden.
- Livelihood Opportunity: By providing a subsidized vehicle, the scheme creates an opportunity for disabled workers to generate a steady income through commercial transportation, restoring their dignity and economic independence.
- Environmental Impact: The scheme promotes the use of electric vehicles, contributing to the state’s “Go-Green” mission and reducing air pollution.
Application Process: A Step-by-Step Guide
The application process is managed online, ensuring a transparent and efficient system. The process often involves both the applicant and the vehicle dealer.
- Online Application: The applicant visits the official e-Nirman Portal or a similar government portal to initiate the application. The dealer often assists in this process.
- Document Upload: All necessary documents, including proof of registration with the GBOCWWB, disability certificate, driving license, and bank details, are uploaded online.
- Verification: The application is then reviewed and verified by a government labor officer.
- Final Approval: After verification, the application is approved by the Head Office of the GBOCWWB and the Member Secretary.
- Subsidy Disbursement: The approved subsidy amount is then reimbursed to the dealer, and the applicant receives the vehicle after paying the remaining amount.
